Women take down Wooster

Box Score

A dominating first half performance by the Big Red would be enough to send Denison to a 74-39 victory over visiting Wooster from Livingston Gymnasium.

Denison shot 46 percent in the opening half and held the Fighting Scots to a 4-of-25 shooting performance over the first 20 minutes.  That would send the Big Red into the locker room leading by 32 points at 44-12.

DU would push its lead out to as much as 46 points with 10:53 to play.  Denison's offense was powered by the 3-point shooting of junior Kellie Arter and their domination of the glass.  The Big Red outrebounded Wooster 60-34 and their 26 offensive boards would lead to 20 second chance points.

Arter was 5-for-9 and 5-of-8 from beyond the arc. She finished with a game-high 17 points.  Over her last three games, Arter is shooting 61 percent from the field and 57 percent from downtown.  She is averaging 17 ppg over that span which has resulted in three victories for the Big Red.

Jordan Holmes snared 14 rebounds in 18 minutes and first-year Akilah Fletcher turned in her first career double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds.

Wooster (1-11, 0-3) was led in scoring by Lauren Hancher with 12 points. She also grabbed seven rebounds.

Denison improves to 7-6 overall and 3-1 in the North Coast Athletic Conference.  The victory also marked win number 399 in the career of Big Red head coach Sara Lee.  She will go for the milestone 400th career win on Wednesday (Jan. 7) when they host No. 15 DePauw at 7:30 p.m.
