Box Score Sophomore Ashlyn Flaherty's goal in the 96th minute capped off the Big Red's 2-1 come-from-behind victory at Hanover on Sunday afternoon.
With less than 18 minutes left in regulation, Denison erased a 1-0 first-half deficit when senior captain Maddy Regan buried a shot into the lower right corner off an assist from junior captain Andrea Witte at 72:11. The goal was Regan's first of the season and the sixth in her career. It also marked the first time an opponent scored on the Panther's defense this season. Neither team registered a shot over the final 17:49, sending the game into overtime.
In the extra session, DU needed just one attempt to score the game-winning tally. At 95:16, Flaherty ripped a shot past Karlee VanDerWeele and into the lower right 90 for her third goal of the season. The sophomore has scored in all three of Denison's victories this season and co-leads the team with three goals.
Despite outshooting Hanover in the opening 45 minutes, the Big Red trailed the home team 1-0 when Erin Hancock found the back of the net from five yards outs. Denison held an 11-6 edge in shot in the first period before ending the game with a 16-10 advantage. DU also attempted seven corners and committed eight fouls, while the Panthers recorded three of each.
Denison freshman Jenny Herold and VanDerWeele each posted four saves between the pipes. Herold is now 3-1 in her rookie campaign, while VanDerWeele moves to 1-1 on the season.
Freshman Meg Wozniak posted a team-high four shots, including two on goal, while Witte and Grace Murray each had three attempts. Hancock and Tricia Walsh led the Panther charge with three and two shots, respectively.
