Early offense leads DU past Witt

Box Score

The Big Red struck early, posting two goals in the opening eight minutes of play on Friday afternoon at Wittenberg.  That would help lead Denison to a 3-1 victory over the Tigers.

Denison put the pressure on offensively from the opening whistle as Abby Martone put a shot on-goal just a minute and a half into the first half.  Four minutes later, Jen Durbin would connect on her second shot attempt after taking a pass from Kirsten Audette.

Just two minutes later, Sara Hofmann would control a loose ball and feed Britta Marden who deposited the ball in the cage for Denison's second goal.

In the 24th minute of action, Wittenberg would cut into the Big Red's lead when Riley Trexler scored.

That is how the score would remain until just 11 minutes remained in the contest when Marden would add some insurance with her second goal of the contest off a pass from Chloe Dikeou.

Denison controlled the match from start to finish, outshooting the Tigers, 17-5.  Wittenberg goalie Laura Jansing was forced to make 12 saves.  The two teams each attempted four penalty corners.

With the win, DU improves to 3-3 overall and 3-1 in the North Coast Athletic Conference.  Wittenberg drops to 3-4 and 2-1 in league play.  Denison will return to action on Wednesday (Sept. 24) at The College of Wooster.
