Denison routs OWU, 8-1

Box Score

Denison held a 2-1 advantage over visiting Ohio Wesleyan at halftime, but six unanswered goals by the Big Red over the final 35 minutes would result in an 8-1 final from Granville.

The Battling Bishops jumped out to a 1-0 lead when Cheyenne Gibbons re-directed a pass from Paige Haenig in the 15th minute of play.  Three minutes later Denison's Jen Durbin scored off a re-direct from a Molly Chapman penalty corner shot.

In the 29th minute of play, DU sophomore Abby Martone controlled a loose ball in front of the cage and slipped a shot between the legs of OWU goalie Jackie Feliciano for the eventual game-winning goal.

The Big Red's second half barrage would begin in the opening seconds of the period when Sara Hofmann deposited her second goal of the season on an empty cage after Feliciano came in an attempt to kick the loose ball away.

Denison's next three goals would all come via penalty corner attempts as Chapman, Tori Rapillo, and Chapman for a second would give the Big Red a 6-1 lead.  DU's final two scores would come from Chloe Dikeou in the 55th minute and Emily Marlatt off an assist from Britta Marden in the 58th minute of play.

Chapman led Denison with two goals and one assist.  Dikeou followed with one goal and one assist.  In all, six players accounted for DU's eight goals.

The home team outshot Ohio Wesleyan 25-4, and out cornered them 9-3.  Feliciano finished with eight saves and Kayla Wayne posted one save in 20 minutes of relief.  Freshman back Gabi Coty recorded two defensive saves for the Bishops.

Denison improves to 2-3 overall and 2-1 in the North Coast Athletic Conference while OWU drops to 3-3 and 1-2 in conference play.  The Big Red will be back in action on Friday when they travel to Wittenberg for a 4:30 p.m. start.
