Holmes' triple-double paces DU

Box Score

Led by Jordan Holmes' second career triple-double, Denison improved to 18-6 on the season following a 62-43 victory over Hiram College in the Big Red's regular season home finale from Livingston Gym.

Holmes becomes just the second player in all of NCAA Division III to record two triple-doubles this season, joining Madisen Webb of Transylvania.  Her first came on Nov. 30 in a 43-point win over Muskingum.  Tonight's line of 13 points, 16 rebounds and 10 blocked shots were all just slightly over her season average of 10.4 ppg, 14.1 rpg, and 6.2 bpg.

Denison held a 29-18 lead at the half despite shooting just 31 percent over the first 20 minutes.  Holmes scored only two points in the first period, but her 10 rebounds and five blocked shots were directly tied to DU's 11-point lead.

By the 8:32 mark of the second half, a Holmes put-back after an offensive rebound lifted her squad to a 20-point advantage and the eventual win.  Holmes' final piece of the triple-double would come with 2:09 to play when she blocked a layup attempt by Hiram's Danielle Day.

For the game, Holmes was 6-of-10 from the field and 1-for-5 from the free throw line for 13 points.  Seven of her 16 rebounds came on the offensive end, helping lead to 22 second chance points for the Big Red.  Her 10 blocked shots was one off her career-high set against Muskingum.

Also following with 13 points was Gretchen Staubach while Mary Margaret Habel came off the bench to score 10 points in 16 minutes.

Hiram was led by Kayla Yost's 12 points.  Day finished with 11 and Christy Griffin pulled down 12 rebounds.

Denison shot 36 percent for the game while Hiram connected at a 33 percent clip.  The Terriers outrebounded DU 44-38 but their 22 turnovers resulted in 26 points for the home team.

Through 24 games Holmes has recorded 143 blocked shots, which ranks seventh in the NCAA Division III single-season record book.  She needs just three more blocks to move past Liza Janssen of Wellesley and into sixth-place.  Holmes broke the Denison and North Coast Athletic Conference single-season blocked shot record on Jan. 29 against DePauw.  Holmes currently leads the nation in blocked shots per game and is tied for fifth in rebounds per game.

Denison will take its 10-5 NCAC record to Allegheny on Saturday for a 1 p.m. tip-off against the Gators.
