Big Red tops Oberlin in shutout

Box Score

Denison field hockey put the finishing touches on its regular season with a commanding 6-0 win over Oberlin College on Saturday afternoon.  The win sets up a rematch with DePauw in the semifinals of the North Coast Athletic Conference Tournament.  Denison enters the tournament as the No. 3 seed with a record of 10-4 in league play.  DePauw is 12-2 in the NCAC.

Today at Oberlin, Denison got two goals from senior Molly Chapman and one goal and one assist from junior forward Elsie Humes

Humes got the offense going when she scored her eighth goal of the season, nine minutes into the first half.  The Big Red would quickly force a penalty corner after the goal and Humes inserted the ball to Chapman who fired in her ninth goal of the season.

Denison's third goal would come in the 15th minute of play off the stick of Britta Marden.  The score would remain 3-0 in favor of the Big Red until the second half when Chapman would score her 10th goal of the year off a feed from Emily Marlatt.

Abby Martone got in the scoring column in the 66th minute and senior Sara Hofmann followed less than a minute later with her fourth goal of the season.

DU dominated shots (40-4) and penalty corner (23-2).  Oberlin's Maggie Gossiaux turned in 21 saves and Kendra Lian led the Yeowomen with three defensive saves.

The victory moves Denison's record to 12-6 overall.  Their semifinal match-up against DePauw is scheduled to begin at 3 p.m. on Wednesday in Greencastle, Ind.
