Box Score Maddie Breschi's goal nine seconds before halftime would be enough to send Kenyon to a 1-0 victory over Denison from Piper Stadium. The loss drops the Big Red's record to 10-6 overall and 9-4 in the North Coast Athletic Conference, while Kenyon improves to 15-2 and 11-1 in conference play.
Denison opened the contest on the offensive, forcing Kenyon goalie Claire O'Donnell-McCarthy to make two saves in the opening 15 minutes of play off shot attempts from Britta Marden and Molly Chapman.
In the final minute of the first half, Kenyon's Julie Freedman took a shot that had to be saved by Denison's Audrey Miller-Foreman. Kenyon regained possession and drew a penalty corner with under 30 seconds left on the clock. Rachel Hall inserted the corner and Breschi followed with a firm slap shot from the top of the shooting circle, giving the visitors the lead at intermission.
In the second half, Kenyon would put three shots on goal, while outshooting the Big Red 8-3. In the final minute of regulation, Denison did make a push to tie the game when the recently substituted Jen Durbin made a steal and forced a penalty corner attempt with no time remaining on the clock. Durbin would insert the corner to Chapman who passed to Chloe Dikeou who followed with a shot attempt that was blocked by a Kenyon defender. After the scrum for the loose ball was controlled by Kenyon, the officials sounded their whistles, signifying the end of the contest.
Kenyon held a 14-6 advantage in shots and an 8-5 lead in penalty corner attempts. O'Donnell –McCarthy turned in three saves for Kenyon while Miller-Foreman matched her career-high with six saves.
The Big Red returns to action tomorrow (Oct. 25) when they host No. 15 Rochester at 11 a.m. from Piper Stadium.
