Dikeou, Chapman lead DU past Scots

Box Score

Denison took their time to take command on the scoreboard, but a pair of second half goals would be enough to send the Big Red to a 2-1 win over The College of Wooster.  The win moves DU to 9-3 in North Coast Athletic Conference play.

The Big Red was on the offensive from the opening whistle, but goals would be hard to come by thanks to the stellar play by Wooster goalie Carrie Mount.  Denison outshot their opponent 13-2 in the first half, but Wooster's lone shot on goal of the contest would give the Fighting Scots a 1-0 lead just seven minutes into the match.

The Scots would capitalize on their first penalty corner attempt as Kerry O'Connor inserted the ball to Anjela Galimberti who passed to Kayla O'Connor who took a shot that would be re-directed into the goal by her sister, Kerry O'Connor.  The twin-sister goal-assist combo put the Scots on top, 1-0.

With the scoreboard still favoring Wooster early in the second half, Denison continued to pour it on offensively.  DU took six shots over a span of four minutes was awarded its third penalty corner of the period in the 51st minute.  That's when Elsie Humes inserted the ball to Chloe Dikeou who fired a slap shot from the top of the shooting circle, past Mount, tying the score at 1-1.

Over the next five minutes, Denison would attempt six more shots, three of which resulted in goalie saves, before Molly Chapman punched in the game-winning goal with 14 minutes left in regulation.  Chapman's shot came from the right wing and banged into the lower left corner of the cage.

In the second half, Denison outshot Wooster 19-3 and ended up with a 32-5 advantage in shots over the course of the match.  Penalty corners were just as lopsided, favoring DU 13-2.  Chapman, Emily Marlatt, and Dikeou all attempted seven shots, while Humes and Britta Marden each added three.

Mount finished with a season-high 15 saves for Wooster.

Denison (10-5, 9-3 NCAC) will return on Saturday (Oct. 25) with a pivotal conference match-up with Kenyon College at 11 a.m. from Piper Stadium.  Kenyon sits atop the NCAC standings at 10-1, but that one loss came against the Big Red on Sept. 27 in Gambier, Ohio.
