Box Score Ohio Wesleyan's Haley Savoie scored 36 seconds into the first overtime period, propelling the Battling Bishops to a 1-0 win over the Denison Big Red from Selby Stadium in Delaware, Ohio.
Despite being outshot 22-4, the Bishops made their best attempt count when Savoie accepted a pass from Montana Knapp and sent her shot toward the right post, under the stick of Denison goalie Audrey Miller-Foreman.
The win drops Denison's record to 8-5 overall and 8-3 in the North Coast Athletic Conference while Ohio Wesleyan improves to 7-8 and 4-7 in the NCAC.
Denison dominated the first half offensively, attempting 14 shots to OWU's one due in large to 13 penalty corner attempts for the Big Red. Late in the opening half, back-to-back shot attempts by Jen Durbin were turned away by OWU's Jackie Feliciano. Ten minutes earlier, Molly Chapman put a shot on cage that had to be stopped by OWU fullback Gabi Coty.
In the second half, Denison once again outshot the Bishops 8-2, forcing Feliciano to add four more saves to her total. Despite the volume of shots for DU, Ohio Wesleyan managed the best scoring chance of the second half when Alex Peterson sent a shot that caromed off the right post in the 51st minute.
Emily Marlatt, Chloe Dikeou and Chapman led Denison with four shots apiece. Feliciano finished with nine saves for OWU while Miller-Foreman posted two saves for the Big Red.
Denison returns to action on Saturday (Oct. 18) when they host Hendrix at 11 a.m. from Piper Stadium.
