Denison blanks Earlham, primed for showdown with DePauw

Denison won its seventh-straight contest on Saturday, 6-0, over the Earlham Quakers in Richmond, Ind.  The win moves DU's record to 8-3 overall and 8-1 in the North Coast Athletic Conference, setting the stage for critical NCAC match against No. 16 DePauw, tomorrow afternoon in Greencastle, Ind.  DePauw suffered a 4-3 loss to Kenyon on Saturday, allowing Denison to move into a tie with Kenyon for first-place in the NCAC standings.  

The Big Red would control possession throughout today's game, scoring three goals in the first half and three in the second while outshooting the Quakers 29-2.  Sara Hofmann opened the scoring in the 16th minute off an assist by Chloe Dikeou.  Eight minutes later, Britta Marden scored her third goal of the season.

Denison's third goal of the opening half would come two minutes before intermission when Abby Martone fed Tori Rapillo with the goal.  Second half goals would come from Molly Chapman, Dikeou from Alex Berman and Jane Higley from Greta Finney.

Earlham goalie Brynna Foreman finished with three saves.  DU won the penalty corner battle 19-1.

Denison and No. 16 DePauw will clash at 12 p.m. on Sunday (Oct. 12) in Greencastle, Ind.  Live stats of that contest will be provided by DePauw.

Notable:  During Denison's seven-match winning streak, they have outscored their opponents, 37-4.
