Box Score The top-ranked DePauw Tigers capitalized on 24 Denison turnovers en route to a convincing 63-38 victory over the Big Red on Wednesday night in Greencastle, Ind.
Clinging to a three-point first-half lead, the defending national champs orchestrated a 24-6 run over the course of seven minutes to build a 31-10 lead before taking a 19-point advantage into the intermission. DePauw shot 48 percent in the opening period and held DU to a 28-percent clip. The Tigers also turned 14 Big Red turnovers into 13 points in the first stanza.
Denison responded with a 55-percent performance from the floor in the second half, but miscues continued to hinder any attempt at a comeback. DePauw finished the contest with 21 points off the 24 Big Red giveaways, while DU only generated two tallies off 11 Tiger turnovers.
Junior guard Candise Love and freshman Alyssa Wagner co-led Denison with eight points each, while Wagner also chipped in a team-best four rebounds in 12 minutes off the bench. Freshman Jordan Holmes added six points, three rebounds and three blocks, while Gabrielle Nottage dished out two assists.
Savannah Trees led all scorers with 18 points, while Ali Ross added 12 points and a game-high six rebounds. Ross also dished out three assists and recorded five steals in 28 minutes.
Denison falls 11-3 on the year and 3-2 in the North Coast Athletic Conference, while DePauw moves to 13-0 and 4-0 in league play. The win marked the Tigers' 47th-consecutive victory and their 66th-straight regular season win. The Big Red returns home for the first time in over a month next Wednesday (Jan. 15) when they host Kenyon at 6 p.m.
