Love; Holmes combine to tame Lions

Box Score

Candise Love scored a career-high 28 points and Jordan Holmes flirted with a triple double for the second-straight game, as Denison improved to 3-0 following a 78-66 victory over Mount St. Joseph from Livingston Gym.

In a game that was marred by 54 fouls and 71 free throw attempts, DU capitalized at the line, going 25-of-35.  Love was the catalyst, slashing her way to an 8-for-13 performance from the floor.  When she didn't convert in the lane she was fouled and the junior connected on 11-of-14 from the stripe.  Her 28 points were not only a career-high, but it was the most points scored by a Denison player since Shaina Kaiser poured in 28 against Oberlin on Feb. 19, 2011.

Denison held a 10-point halftime advantage after shooting 46 percent from the field in the opening stanza.  The Lions were just 8-for-28 from the floor in the first half.  In the second half, Mount St. Joseph's Mea Williams cut Denison's lead to seven with just under 13 minutes to play.  One minute later, Denison's Mikaela Freundlich answered with a 3-pointer from the left elbow, putting her team back up 10.  That double-digit lead would stand up over the final eight minutes of the half.

Holmes continued to impress in just her third collegiate game.  She posted 14 points, 16 rebounds, eight blocked shots, and three steals in 30 minutes of action.  The 6'1 post was 6-for-7 from the field.  Her 16 rebounds came one game after snaring 15 against Otterbein.  That is the most rebounds in a game since Carolyn Simpson posted 16 against Kenyon in 2009.  Her eight blocked shots were one shy of the Denison single-game record.

Following with nine points was Freundlich while first-year Emily Krumpe added eight points and four rebounds in 12 minutes off the bench.

The Lions were led by Heidi McManus' 19 points.  Meredith Hartfiel added 15 points in 17 minutes off the bench.

Denison moves to 3-0 on the year while Mount St. Joe falls to 0-3.  The Big Red will return to action on Friday (Nov. 22) when they take on Hanover College at the Mount Union M-Club Shootout.  On Saturday (Nov. 23) they will take on either Mount Union or Waynesburg.
