DU blanks Witt for sixth-straight win

Box Score

A 3-0 victory by the Big Red on Tuesday against Wittenberg secured a regular season sweep against the Tigers.  It also moved Denison's record to 10-1 overall and 8-1 in the North Coast Athletic Conference.

Denison controlled possession throughout much of the 70 minute contest, outshooting their opponents 31-5.  Denison broke through in the 18th minute of play when Taylor Bacon sent a long cross to Alex B. Berman who connected on her shot to the lower left corner of the cage.  The goal was Berman's 10th of the season.

Just before halftime, the Big Red was granted its eighth penalty corner attempt of the period and despite losing possession initially, McMahon took the ball back and scored for the fifth consecutive game.  In the 60th minute McMahon scored again after a shot by Alex W. Berman was saved by Wittenberg goalie, Laura Jansing.  Abby Martone controlled the rebounded save and tipped a pass to McMahon for the score.  Over her last five games, McMahon has scored nine goals and has added two assists.  Prior to the game it was announced that she was named the NCAC's Player of the Week for the second-straight week.

Wittenberg did have a few scoring chances as two of their five shot attempts were turned away by Denison goalie Laura Campbell.  Her counterpart, Jansing, posted 12 saves and Wittenberg's Clare Grady added one defensive save.  DU also won the penalty corner battle, 13-3.

Denison's winning streak extends to six with the victory.  They will gear up for a pair of home conference contests this weekend when they host Earlham on Saturday (Oct. 12) at 11 a.m. and DePauw on Sunday (Oct. 13) at 1 p.m.
