Big Red rolls to fourth OT win

Box Score

Denison has gone to overtime on four occasions in 2013, and Alex B. Berman has ended three of those matches.  That was the case this afternoon as the Big Red won its 11th straight contest, 2-1, at The College of Wooster.

In the 91st minute of play, six minutes into the second overtime, Berman ended things when she poked in the game winner after gaining possession of a loose ball in traffic.

The match nearly went in the other direction.

Just one minute into the first overtime, Wooster's Kerry O'Connor attempted a shot that would have sent the Big Red packing if Molly Chapman wouldn't have been there for the defensive save.

After the near-miss by Wooster, DU went on the offensive, taking six shots in the first overtime.  All six shots resulted in saves by Fighting Scots goalkeeper, Meredith Farley.

The second overtime began in the same fashion, with two quick Denison shots by Katie McMahon and Karla Dixon.  Finally, with 9:20 left before the match would have went to a shootout, Berman notched the game-winner.

The goal was the second of the contest for Berman, who notched the opening score in the sixth minute of play after gathering a rebound after a shot by Taylor Bacon was saved by Farley.

Three minutes later, Wooster's Josie Rey tied the match off an assist by Kerry O'Connor. The score would stay that way for the next 82 minutes.

DU held a 23-9 advantage in shots.  From the second half through the overtime periods, Denison outshot the Scots 19-2.  The Big Red also held a 12-3 advantage in penalty corner attempts.  Laura Campbell finished with five saves for the Big Red while Farley ended with 12 saves for Wooster.

The win moves Denison's record to an impressive 15-1 overall and 11-1 in the North Coast Athletic Conference.  Wooster falls to 8-8 and 6-6 in conference play. Denison will return to action on Oct. 26 when they travel to Gambier, Ohio for a 10 a.m. match against Kenyon College.  Denison has won 11 consecutive games dating back to Sept. 15.
