Denison blanks Yeowomen

Box Score

A three-goal first half propelled Denison to a 3-0 victory over visiting Oberlin College, Saturday morning from Piper Stadium.

The Big Red was aggressive from the onset and in the eighth minute, Hilary Zdanowski played a penalty corner into the circle.  Taylor Bacon would come up with the pass and then found Zdanowski who was cutting toward the cage.  Zdanowski's goal put DU up 1-0 early.

The score would remain that way until the 31st minute when Alex B. Berman scored via an assist from Catie Merrick.  That tandem would strike four minutes later when Merrick sent a pass from the far right to Berman who finished at the cage.

DU outshot Oberlin 10-2 in the first half, out-cornering the Yeowomen 9-1.  In the second half, Oberlin's offense awakened and the visitors posted five shots and four corners in the half.  On three of those five shot attempts, Denison goalie Brittany Benson recorded saves.  The senior finished with four in 70 minutes of action.

Oberlin goalkeeper Kiran Puri ended with 12 saves, seven of which came in the second half.  For the match, DU outshot the Yeowomen 21-7.  Berman paced DU with five shots while Zdanowski and McMahon each added four.

Denison returns to North Coast Athletic Conference action on Tuesday when they travel to Ohio Wesleyan for a 4:30 p.m. start against the Battling Bishops.
