DU squeaks by Scots in OT

Box Score

Hilary Zdanowski's goal 5:18 into the first overtime sent Denison to a 3-2 victory over The College of Wooster in the Big Red's 2012 North Coast Athletic Conference opener.

After a scoreless first half, the action heated up in the second as DU scored in the opening minute of the period via an own goal.  In the 63rd minute, Denison's all-time leading scorer Catie Merrick got in the act, finishing off a goal after an assist by Taylor Bacon.

Leading 2-0, less than four minutes later the Fighting Scots would live up to its namesake by scoring twice within a span of 22 seconds to force overtime.

In overtime, Denison would control possession, attempting three shots before Zdanowski's game-winner.

Denison and Wooster each took 13 shots while the Scots took 16 penalty corners compared to eight for DU.  Big Red goalie Brittany Benson finished with six saves while Wooster's Carrie Mount ended with four.  Alex B. Berman, Bacon and Merrick led Denison with three shots apiece.

Denison will continue conference play on Saturday (Sept. 8) when they host Oberlin at 11 a.m.
