Box Score Denison's 12-game regular season winning streak, which dated back to the 2011 season, came to an end on Sunday as the Big Red fell to No. 14 Christopher Newport, 4-1.
All five goals were scored in the opening half and Christopher Newport struck quickly, turning a 1-1 contest in the 20th minute into a 4-1 lead in the 27th minute.
The Big Red's lone goal came from Katie McMahon who was coming off a hat trick in yesterday's 4-3 overtime win over Randolph-Macon. Senior goalie Brittany Benson was outstanding in goal for DU. She posted 17 saves on the day, with 11 coming in the first half and six in the second.
DU was outshot 27-9 and the Captains held a 15-0 lead in penalty corner attempts. Denison (5-1) will return to North Coast Athletic Conference action on Thursday when they travel to Kenyon College for a 4:30 p.m. start.
