Box Score With temperatures rising into the mid-90s at game time Denison managed to shake off the heat and eventually wear down the opposition thanks to a first half goal by Taylor Bacon and a second-half goal by Molly Chapman. The pair of goals would result in a 2-0 victory for the home team against visiting Hendrix College.
After an 18-2 season and an appearance in the NCAA Sweet 16 in 2011, Denison is armed with many of the same faces that comprised one of the top squads in school history a season ago.
Denison was getting plenty of shot attempts in the first half but it took 32 minutes to break through with the first goal of the season. That's when Bacon settled a loose ball from 13 meters out and blasted a shot that deflected off the padding of the goalie and off the top of the cross bar, eventually crossing the goal line.
That goal would stand firm until the 65th minute of play. That's when sophomore Molly Chapman sent a shot from just inside the shooting circle. The ball made its way through traffic and into the back of the cage, putting DU up 2-0.
The Denison defense held Hendrix to four shot attempts and senior goalie Brittany Benson recorded three saves on the night. Hendrix goalie Besty Kelly finished with seven saves in 70 minutes of action.
Denison returns to action on Wednesday, Sept. 5 at the College of Wooster at 4:30 p.m.
