Second half charge dooms Kenyon

Box Score

Denison remained undefeated in the North Coast Athletic Conference following a 9-7 comeback win over Kenyon.

The victory moves DU's record to 9-3 overall and 3-0 in the NCAC.

It was a back and forth contest and the Big Red led 5-4 late in the first half until a foul was whistled on Denison as time expired.  Kenyon was granted a free position attempt and Monty Sherwood converted, tying the game at 5-5.

In the second half the Ladies would score two goals in a span of 48 seconds to take a 7-5 lead with 20 minutes to play.

At the 18:14 mark of the second half, Denison would begin its ascent as Molly Chapman scored on her 8-meter attempt.  Less than two minutes later, Molly Sbrega would pass to Lisa Feroli for the game-tying goal with just under 17 minutes to play.

The next 10 minutes would remain scoreless but at the 6:59 mark, Chapman would be fouled and then convert the free-position goal that would end up the eventual game-winner.  With 4:46 left, Chapman would notch her third free-position goal of the game, setting the final at 9-7.

Kenyon's 20-shot first half helped them hold a 26-19 edge in that category but the two teams tied with 17 ground balls and DU goalie Grace Bodemann turned in 10 saves in 60 minutes in the cage while Kenyon's Meredith Bentsen chipped in six saves.

Denison was led by Chapman's three goals and two assists while Kiersten Dussinger added two goals.  Sbrega added one goal and two assists and Carly Tschantz led with five draw controls.

DU will exit conference play for one game and play at Urbana on Friday (April 13) at 5 p.m.
