Box Score The Denison women's basketball team picked up its fifth-straight victory following a 62-48 decision over Oberlin College on Wednesday night in Granville. With the win, the Big Red secured a home game in the opening round of the North Coast Athletic Conference Tournament on Tuesday evening.
Ahead by two in the opening period, juniors Nicole Coggins, Kinsey Bryant-Lees and Kyli Parker all knocked down three-pointers to give DU a 23-14 advantage. Senior Annie-Rae Dura extended the lead to double figures with a bucket off an assist from Parker. On the ensuing possession, Parker came up with a steal and used a behind the back pass to set Serafina Nuzzo up for the fast break layup. Late in the period, Parker nailed another 3-pointer to send the Big Red into the locker room with a 32-18 lead.
Denison maintained the double-digit advantage in the second half, pushing its lead to 21 on three separate occasions. Despite a late bucket by Oberlin's Christina Marquette, DU walked off the floor at Livingston Gymnasium with a 14-point victory.
The Big Red outrebounded the Yeowomen 41-36 and scored twice as many second-chance points (16-8). DU also got 26 points from its bench, and scored 22 points in the paint.
Sophomore Jane Windler led all scorers with 18 points to go along with five rebounds, while Coggins added 10 tallies and five boards. Parker logged nine points and a game-high six steals, while Alyx Ingram dished out four assists and Lucy Follansbee blocked three shots.
Allison Gannon paced Oberlin with 16 points and nine rebounds, while Kelly Warlich chipped in 12 points and four blocks. Marquette finished the night with 10 points, nine rebounds and three steals.
Denison improves to 17-7 overall and 10-5 in the NCAC, while the Yeowomen fall to 6-19 and 3-13 in conference play. DU closes out the regular season at home on Saturday afternoon. The Big Red will take on Hiram College at 2 p.m.
