Denison notched its second shutout victory of the 2011-12 season after blanking Earlham College 9-0 on Wednesday night in Granville.
Senior Tom Cawood and sophomore Juan Guerra won at first and third singles, respectively, after their opponents were forced to retire. Also logging singles victories were senior Matt McErlean (7-5, 3-6, 13-11), rookie Casey Cempre (4-6, 6-2, 10-4), senior Tyler Cempre (6-0, 6-3) and first-year Grant Veltman (6-0, 6-1).
In double action, Tyler Cempre and McErlean improved to 7-1 on the year with an 8-5 victory over Henry Levin and Anton Bartashevich, while senior Tim Martin and rookie Shankar Rajupet edged Brad Maisey and Andrey Gavrilov 9-7 at the second flight. At third doubles, Guerra and Veltman shutout Scott Lawrence and David Bluestein.
Denison improved to 2-0 on the year, while the Quakers (3-1) suffered their first loss of the season. The Big Red returns to action on March 12 against Lake Forest in Hilton Head, S.C. Match time is slated for 12 p.m.
