Box Score

The Denison women's basketball team moved into a tie for second in the North Coast Athletic Conference standings with a thrilling 91-85 overtime victory over Allegheny College on Saturday afternoon.

The Big Red along with the Gators and Kenyon share the second spot with identical 9-5 records.  With just two games remaining, Denison inches closer to securing a home contest in the quarterfinals of the NCAC Tournament.

Despite a costly turnover, Denison was still in the game with 32 seconds to go.  After a pair of Erica Restich free throws, Jane Windler scored to make it a 78-75 contest.  With 19 seconds on the clock, DU was forced to foul and put Daryl Ford on the line.

After a Ford miss, junior Nicole Coggins grabbed the rebound and pushed the Big Red up the floor.  With time winding down, Coggins found Kinsey Bryant-Lees who drained a deep triple with one second remaining in regulation.  The three-point bucket tied the game at 78-78 and forced an extra session.

Trailing 83-82 in OT, first-year Alyx Ingram drove the lane and converted a left-handed layup to give Denison its first lead of the period.  Allegheny's Marina Scarantino answered on the ensuing possession with a bucket putting the Gators back on top with 3:29 to play.

With 73 seconds left in overtime, Windler buried a jumper to give DU an 86-85 lead.  Over the final 22 seconds, junior point guard Serafina Nuzzo went 5-for-6 from the charity stripe to ice the win.

Denison had four players score in double figures, led by Nuzzo's 23 tallies.  Windler logged her third double-double of the season with 19 points and 10 rebounds, while Ingram and Coggins chipped in 18 and 14, respectively.

The Gators were led by its big three of Restich, Heidi Goeller and Ford.  Restich finished with 25 points, while Goeller added 24 tallies and eight rebounds.  Ford chipped in 21 points and a team-best nine boards, while Scarantino had 10 tallies and seven assists.

Denison shot a 44 percent clip (34-for-77) from the field, and converted 15-of-22 (68 percent) from the foul line.  Allegheny hit 34-of-58 (59 percent) from the floor and 5-of-10 (50 percent) from behind the arc.  The Gators outrebounded DU 43-33, but committed 29 giveaways that the Big Red turned into 32 points.

The Big Red moves to 16-7 overall, while Allegheny falls to 14-9.  Denison returns to action on Wednesday when they host Oberlin College at 6 p.m.
