Box Score Senior Catie Merrick had a hand in all six of the Big Red's goals as DU posted a 6-3 win over Oberlin College on Friday.
The Big Red needed a pair of second half goals from Merrick and one from Hilary Zdanowski to break a 3-3 halftime tie. Zdanowski's goal came off a feed from Merrick in the first minute of the second half. In the 52nd minute Merrick would strike again, this time via an assist from Kate Hackett. Her third and final goal would come in the 58th minute when she knocked in a loose ball in front of the cage.
Denison's three first half goals came from Katie McMahon, Merrick and Taylor Bacon. The Big Red outshot Oberlin 15-9 and forced Yeowomen goalie Carmen Azevedo to make seven saves in her 59 minutes of action. For DU, senior Brittany Benson posted five saves in 70 minutes of action.
The nine points by Merrick equaled a career single-game high set on Oct. 21, 2009 in a 5-4 loss to The College of Wooster.
The Big Red improve to 8-4 overall and 6-3 in the NCAC while Oberlin drops to 2-7 and 1-7 in the conference. Denison returns to action on Tuesday when they host Ohio Wesleyan at 5 p.m. from Piper Stadium.
