Second half explosion sends Big Red past Quakers

Box Score

Denison closed out the 2012 regular season with a 7-0 victory over Earlham College from Piper Stadium in Granville.  The victory sends the Big Red into the 2012 North Coast Athletic Conference with a 14-5 overall record and 10-4 mark in the NCAC.  The 10-4 record also secures the No. 2 seed and a home game in next week's NCAC Tournament.

The Big Red offense was stymied early on by the Quakers who faced 17 DU shot attempts, only letting one goal through off the stick of Katie McMahon.

In the second half the Denison offense found its groove and the floodgates opened.  Over a 25 minute span the Big Red got three goals from Catie Merrick, a second goal from McMahon and goals from Alex B. Berman and Courtney Testani, setting the final at 7-0.  Also adding assists were junior Karla Dixon and McMahon.

Denison outshot Earlham 31-0 as Quaker goalie Emma Treece posted 14 saves while playing all 70 minutes in cage.  Brittany Benson picked up her 23rd career shutout in the win.

The Big Red will learn its opponent in next Wednesday's NCAC Semifinal on Monday night after the completion of the suspended match between Ohio Wesleyan and Wittenberg.

NOTE: Prior to the game Denison honored its five member senior class.  The group comprised of Benson, Katie Couyoumjian, Katherine Ireland, Merrick and Hilary Zdanowski, havbe posted a 51-26 record since 2009 to go along with an NCAC Tournament Championship in 2011.
