Box Score Four players scored in double figures as the Denison Big Red ended a three-game skid with a 67-45 victory at Oberlin on Wednesday.
The Yeowomen got off to a hot start as they knocked down seven of their first 12 shots en route to a 15-8 advantage midway through the opening period.
Trailing by seven, Denison engineered a 9-1 run to regain a 17-16 edge. The run saw four different players register a point, including junior Nicole Coggins who logged four tallies. Tied at 22-22, junior point guard Serafina Nuzzo hit back-to-back layups in the final 45 seconds to give Denison a four-point lead heading into the intermission.
The Big Red carried that momentum into the second period as they quickly built a 10-point lead behind a pair of buckets from Jane Windler and a jumper by Nuzzo. DU maintained a double-digit lead for the majority of the period en route to the 22-point victory.
Denison shot 47 percent (28-for-60) from the field, including a 57 percent clip (17-for-30) in the second period. Oberlin hit 45 percent (18-for-40) from the floor, and 60 percent (3-for-5) from behind the arc. The Big Red held a 32-28 advantage on the glass and forced a season-high tying 26 turnovers. Thirty-one of DU's 67 tallies came off OC giveaways.
Nuzzo led all scorers with 16 points to go along with four steals and three assists. Windler logged 14 tallies, a game-high eight rebounds and four steals, while Coggins chipped in 11 points. Rookie Lydia Harlan went a perfect 4-for-4 from the field and 2-for-2 from behind the arc en route to a season-high 10 points. Harlan also had five assists, four steals, four rebounds and a block.
Christina Marquette and Kelly Warlich each logged 11 points to pace the Yeowomen. Marquette, Allison Gannon, Lillian Jahan and Ashley Young all grabbed five boards, while Warlich pulled in four rebounds.
The Big Red improve to 12-6 overall and 5-4 in the North Coast Athletic Conference, while Oberlin falls to 4-14 and 1-8 in league play. Denison returns to action on Saturday when they travel to Hiram College. Tip-off is slated for 1 p.m.
