Box Score Denison remained undefeated following a 2-0 victory over Ohio Wesleyan on Friday night in Delaware, Ohio. DU moves to 7-0 overall and 4-0 in the North Coast Athletic Conference.
Once again, the Big Red set the tone early on, this time by scoring both of their goals in the first half. The first came from the stick of Katie McMahon off an assist by Molly Chapman at the 15:20 mark. Just four minutes later, Catie Merrick, who was playing for the first time in nearly two weeks, scored her second goal of the season.
Despite outshooting Ohio Wesleyan, 20-5, those two goals from McMahon and Merrick would be all the Big Red would need. Brittany Benson stopped two shots while earning her fourth save of the season. McMahon led her team with six shots and Merrick followed with five.
At 7-0, Denison is just one victory away from equaling the best start in school history, held by the 1980 Big Red field hockey squad.
The first-place Big Red will return to the field on Wednesday (Sept. 28) when they host Kenyon College at 4:30 p.m.
