Offense explodes in victory over Oberlin

Box Score

Denison remained undefeated in 2011 following a convincing 8-2 victory over Oberlin College on Wednesday from Deeds Field-Piper Stadium.  Seven different players got in the scoring column for DU.  Their eight goals were the most by a Denison team since the 2000 season.

The Big Red scored three goals in the first half and sophomore Katie McMahon accounted for two of those three scores.  McMahon broke the scoreless tie in the 22nd minute when she flicked a shot from the left side of the goal to the right corner after accepting a pass from Taylor Bacon.

Just 55 seconds later, Bacon would score her first goal of the season, giving Denison a 2-0 lead.  The final goal of the first half would be tallied by McMahon on a break away where she juked the goalie and finished into an open cage.

Six minutes into the second half McMahon would send a pass from the end line in front of the goal where Hilary Zdanowski was waiting for the re-direct.  The goal was Zdanowski's first of the season.  In the 50th minute, first-year Molly Champman put her squad up 5-0 and Denison's final three goals would come from Kerianne Sullivan, Alex B. Berman and Tonie Michaels.  Berman's goal, which was her second of the season, came via a penalty stroke in the 63rd minute.

Brittany Benson posted two saves while playing all 70 minutes in goal for Denison.  Current North Coast Athletic Conference Player of the Week, Courtney Testani, contributed two assists.

At 4-0, Denison is off to their best start since 1996.  They will put their undefeated record on the line this Saturday (Sept. 17) when they host Centre at 11 a.m.
