Denison tied for fifth at Barlcay Invite

The Big Red turned in three rounds in the 70s and trail first place, Ohio Wesleyan by only 15 strokes heading into Sunday's final round of the Ted Barclay Spring Invitational from Granville Golf Course.  DU sits in a tie for fifth with 310 strokes at the 13-team, 36-hole invitational.

Denison sophomore Jeff Maier paced his squad with a one-under par 35 on the back nine to finish with a career-low round of 75.  Maier battled back from a rough start which saw him bogey the opening three holes.  After a five-over 40 on the front he struck back with four pars and birdies on the par-5 12th hole and the par-4 18th hole.  His 4-over 75 ties him for 7th overall.

Checking in one stroke behind Maier with a 76 was Kyle Bates.  The senior, who is making his final competitive appearance at Granville Golf Course this weekend, carded a 1-over 36 on the front and followed with a 4-over, 40 on the back nine.  Bates had one birdie and the veteran also carded 11 pars on the day.

Checking in third was first-year Dylan Lee who finished with a 79 after a 2-over 37 on the front side.  Sophomore Sam Kaiser rounded out Denison's scoring with an 80 which also featured a 37 on the front nine.  Denison's fifth score went to Aaron Klimchuck who fired back-to-back 41s for an 82.

The low round of the day was 71 which was matched by three golfers.  Ohio Wesleyan holds a six-stroke lead over second-place Mount Union in the standings.  Sunday's final round will begin with a shotgun start from Granville G.C. at 9 a.m.
