The Big Red men's team posted four rounds in the 70s helping them climb to third after the first day of the Nye Intercollegiate from Wooster Country Club in Wooster, Ohio. This round marked the first of four rounds which will make up the 2011 North Coast Athletic Conference Championship series.
Denison carded a 314 on Saturday and trail only Ohio Wesleyan and Wittenberg in the standings. Wittenberg leads with a 299 while OWU sits four shots back at 303.
DU was led by senior Kyle Bates who shot a 5-over par, 77 which landed him in a tie for seventh overall. Denison's remaining three scorers, Aaron Klimchuk, Dylan Lee and Jeff Maier all finished with 79s and are tied for 11th in the individual standings.
The low round of the day was an even-par 72 fired by Wittenberg's David Wetterich. DU will return to the course on Sunday for the final 18-hole round.
