Box Score After missing the last five games with an injury, senior Lulu Carter returned with two goals in the final five minutes, sending Denison to a 9-7 victory over the Wittenberg Tigers from a snow-covered Edwards-Maurer Field.
Denison trailed 4-3 at the half and the the Tigers struck immediately in the second half when Maggie Amorello scored her third goal of the contest off an 8-meter shot attempt just seconds after she secured the opening draw of the half.
Six minutes into the second half, DU senior Carly Tschantz ended Wittenberg's unanswered goal streak at four, when she scored off an assist by Olivia Shiland, trimming Wittenberg's lead to 5-4.
The Big Red won the ensuing draw and wasted no time at all knotting the match at 5-5 thanks to Molly Sbrega's second goal of the game and 14th of the season.
Over the next 15 minutes the two teams would trade goals, twice and with the score tied, 7-7 with 5:14 remaining, Carter gave Denison a one-goal advantage with her sixth goal of the year.
The final five minutes of the contest saw the Big Red control possession. Two penalties on the Tigers put them at a disadvantage in numbers as well. With just one second left in the game, Carter would score again, setting the final score at 9-7.
Sbrega led all scorers with three goals while Jenny Strathern and Carter followed with two goals. Strathern also posted one assist on Sbrega's first goal of the game.
Tschantz came through big for Denison with a career-high 10 draw controls. First-year Lauren Adams had four caused turnovers and Shiland led DU with six ground balls.
Denison improves to 4-4 overall and 1-0 in the North Coast Athletic Conference while Wittenberg drops to 2-4 overall and 0-1 in conference play.
