Second-half rally sends Colorado College past Big Red

Colorado College outscored the Big Red 9-4 in the second half and broke a 9-9 tie with three goals over the final two minutes of the contest, resulting in a 12-9 loss by the Big Red in Sewanee, Tenn.

Trailing 9-7 with just over six minutes to play, the Big Red got back-to-back goals from Molly Sbrega and Olivia Shiland to tie the game at 9-9 with 4:17 to play.

Colorado College's Ginna Oates would net the eventual game-winner with 2:06 left on an 8-meter shot.  A second 8-meter goal would follow at the 1:08 mark from Elise Burchard.  She would complete a hat trick performance with an insurance goal with 13 seconds remaining, setting the final at 12-9.

Denison had a balanced scoring attack all afternoon, getting two goals from Jenny Strathern, Shiland, Sprega, and Alex Thurner.   Shiland also paced the team defensively with three caused turnovers and five ground balls.

Colorado College held a slight edge in shots, 27-25 and the Big Red won the ground ball battle, 24-21.  DU also posted 12 draw controls thanks to a game-high six draws for Thurner.  Grace Bodenmann posted 13 saves in goal for the Big Red and Colorado College's Abby Fink also finished with 13 saves in the victory.

Denison will return to action on Sunday when they take on Sewanee at 12 p.m.
