Box Score Shaina Kaiser (Ostrander, Ohio/Buckeye Valley) scored 20 points and Denison held Ohio Wesleyan to 22 percent shooting in the second half as the No. 9 Big Red improved to 20-0 following a 75-45 rout of the Battling Bishops from Livingston Gymnasium.
In front of one of the largest crowds of the season, the Big Red took control of the game in the opening minutes and never looked back. They forced OWU into 11 first half turnovers which they converted into 13 first half points. Denison took a 46-27 lead into the locker room and midway through the second half a lay up down low by Annie-Rae Dura (Westerville, Ohio/Central) gave the Big Red their largest lead of the night at 33 points with 8:08 to play.
Kaiser and sophomore guard Serafina Nuzzo (Western Springs, Ill./Fenwick) enjoyed another big statistical night. The two combined for 33 points, 12 rebounds, 14 assists and seven steals. Nuzzo finished with 13 points, eight assists and five rebounds while Kaiser posted 20 points, seven rebounds, six helpers and four steals.
The Denison bench also had a good night, as they outscored the Battling Bishops 22-8. OWU was led by Tyler Cordell's 24 points in 36 minutes of action. Kayla Gordon added six points and nine rebounds.
Trailing Kaiser and Nuzzo for the Big Red was junior Jessica Grzybowski (Parma, Ohio/Padua) who was 5-for-6 from the field for 10 points. Dura led the Denison reserve unit with eight points.
The Big Red will try to keep their winning streak alive on Saturday (Feb. 5) when they travel to Wooster for a 12 p.m. tip-off against the Fighting Scots. At 20-0, this is not only the longest winning streak in school history, it also marks the first time in the history of the North Coast Athletic Conference a women's basketball team has opened the year by winning their first 20 games.
