Big Red complete sweep of Scots

WOOSTER, Ohio-- Denison improved to 10-1 overall and 7-1 in the North Coast Athletic Conference following a 3-0 victory over The College of Wooster on Wednesday afternoon.

The Big Red got off to a strong start when Katie McMahon and Catie Merrick went back-to-back on goals within a three minute span toward the end of the first half.   McMahon's scored first in the 28th minute when Merrick found McMahon on the right side of the field for the goal.

In the 30th minute it was McMahon who slipped a short pass to Merrick who was waiting in front of the goal for the score.

In the second half the dynamic duo would strike again when McMahon provided the pass to Merrick who banged in her fifth goal of the season.

In the first half DU held Wooster to only two shots, but in the second half the Fighting Scots went on the offensive, outshooting Denison, 7-5.  For the match, Wooster held a 9-8 advantage in the shot department and an 8-4 edge in penalty corners.

Big Red goalie Brittany Benson posted six saves in her 70 minutes of action en route to her fifth shutout of the season.  Wooster goalies Liz Plumley and Meredith Farley combined for four saves and Lauren Grimanis notched one defensive save for the Scots.

DU will return to action on Saturday (Oct. 8) when they host Earlham College at 4:30 p.m. from Piper Stadium.
