DU sweeps series with OWU

Box Score

Denison shutout North Coast Athletic Conference rival Ohio Wesleyan University 2-0 on Saturday in Granville behind first-half goals from Katie McMahon and Catie Merrick.  With the win, the Big Red improves to a 11-1 in league play.

DU took the early lead when Merrick found McMahon in the 9th minute.  After receiving a pass from McMahon, Merrick fed a pass back to the sophomore forward who made two nice stick moves and scored between the legs of Ohio Wesleyan goalie Emily Temple.  McMahon's team-leading 13th goal of the season came on the first shot of the game.

At 27:18, Merrick doubled the Big Red lead when she sent a shot over the stick of the diving Temple and into the cage.  The score was her 10th of the season.  At the intermission, Denison held a 6-1 advantage in shots.

In the second half, Denison goalie Brittany Benson saw a lot more action.  The Bishops attempted three shots in the period, all of which were turned aside by the junior keeper.

Denison outshot the Bishops 9-4, while OWU held a 7-3 edge in corners.  Benson finished with three saves en route to her seventh shutout of the season, while Temple stopped two shots.

The Big Red (14-1) close out the season with a pair of key NCAC matches.  Denison will travel to Kenyon on Tuesday (Oct. 25) for a 4:30 p.m. match before returning home on Saturday (Oct. 29) for a conference show down with DePauw at 11 a.m.
