Box Score Denison matched its season-high for goals scored and Catie Merrick notched her first hat trick of the season as the Big Red rolled to an 8-2 victory over Oberlin College.
The win is Denison's fourth straight and 13th of the season. With just one North Coast Athletic Conference defeat with just three league contests to play, Denison trails first-place, DePauw by just one game.
In Friday's win over the Yeowomen, Katie McMahon started things off in the fifth minute with her 11th goal of the season. Oberlin would tie the game at the 15:47 mark of the first half but 22 seconds later, Merrick put Denison back on top for good with an unassisted goal off a rebounded shot.
Hilary Zdanowski would follow two minutes later off an assist from Kelsey Flowers and McMahon would strike again just minutes before halftime, giving DU a 4-1 lead at the intermission.
In the second half, Tonie Michaels, Molly Chapman and Merrick kept the offense rolling with four goals.
Denison outshot Oberlin 24-9 with 22 of the 24 shots landing on-cage. Yeowomen goalie Kiran Puri finished with 13 saves while Denison goalkeeper Brittany Benson turned in four saves.
The Big Red will get an eight-day break until its next contest, next Saturday (Oct. 22) against Ohio Wesleyan in Granville.
