Box Score After nearly 84 minutes of scoreless hockey, Denison finally broke through when Katie McMahon scored her 10th goal of the season resulting in a pivotal 1-0 victory over host, Wittenberg.
The win moves Denison's record to 12-1 overall and 9-1 in the North Coast Athletic Conference with just four regular season conference contests to go. What began just a little over a month ago as a hot start has now become the best start to a season in Denison field hockey history.
On this day the Big Red and Tigers were locked in a stalemate through the 70 minutes of regulation. After the first and second half, DU held an 8-5 advantage in shots and goalie Brittany Benson posted saves on all five Wittenberg shot attempts.
Per overtime rules, players were pulled off the field and Denison's speed and athleticism took over. DU outshot Wittenberg 6-0 in the extra session and Tiger goalie Jenny Schaafsma was there to provide saves on four of those six shots.
Finally in the 84th minute, Alex B. Berman's pass to McMahon in front of the Tiger goal sent Denison to the win.
Benson improved to 12-1 in goal and picked up her sixth shutout of the season.
