Senior Kyle Bates (Avon Lake, Ohio/Avon Lake) and first-year Aaron Klimchuk (White Plains, N.Y./White Plains) fired 3-over par rounds of 74 to lead the Big Red to a third-place finish at the 2010 Denison Fall Classic. Denison finished the 36-hole, two-day tournament with 612 strokes, placing them 20 shots behind second-place Wittenberg. DePauw placed first with a score of 584.
Bates rebounded from a first-round 80 by carding three birdies on No. 9, No. 11 and No. 12 en route to his 74. Klimchuk was steady once again, finishing with two birdies, 12 par's and just four bogies which landed him in a tie for seventh place, overall.
First-year Dylan Lee (Hinsdale, Ill./Hinsdale Central) finished in a tie with Bates for 16th overall and second on the team with a two-round total of 154. Lee finished with an 80 on Sunday. Sophomore Sam Kaiser (Zionsville, Ind./Brebeuf Jesuit) followed in fourth with a 79 and Andrew Smith (Oakland, Calif./Head-Royce School) rounded out the top-five with an 80.
Denison will be back in action on Tuesday (Sept. 7) at the Ohio Wesleyan Fall Intercollegiate at Oakhaven Golf Course in Delaware, Ohio.
