Catie Merrick (Owings Mills, Md./Garrison Forest) scored her 12 goal of the season but Wittenberg jumped out to a 3-0 lead only to hold off the Big Red, 4-1 from Edwards-Maurer Field in Springfield, Ohio.

Wittenberg's Elizabeth Dwyer got things started for the Tigers in the 16th minute with a one-on-one, unassisted goal.  The score would remain 1-0 in favor of Wittenberg until late in the first half when Merideth Price gathered a loose ball and sent it into the Denison cage.

Seven minutes into the second half Wittenberg's Tori Casanta put her squad up 3-0 with another loose ball goal.  Three minutes later DU would get on the scoreboard when Merrick netted an unassisted goal.

The scoring would be closed out by Tiger standout Boo Vernon who scored her 10th goal of the season off a penalty corner pass from Price.

Denison finished the match with eight shots and eight penalty corners.  Wittenberg took 12 shots and 19 penalty corner situations.  Big Red goalie Brittany Benson (Wilmette, Ill./New Trier) finished with five saves while her counterpart from Wittenberg, Jenny Schaafsma, stopped one would-be goal.

Denison will be back in action on Saturday (Sept. 25) when they host Ohio Wesleyan in their 2010 home opener at 11 a.m.
