Denison set to make 18th NCAA Tournament appearance

The selections for the 2010 NCAA Division III men's lacrosse tournament have been made and Denison University will travel to Cabrini College in Radnor, Pa. for a first round match-up with the Cavaliers on Wednesday (May 12) at 4 p.m.

This is the 18th NCAA Tournament appearance for the Big Red and their sixth consecutive berth in the postseason.

The Big Red enter the game with a 10-3 overall record and are ranked 14th in the latest USILA Division III Coaches Poll.  Denison and Cabrini have one previous meeting, with the Big Red prevailing 10-7 in 2005.

The Big Red boast a balanced offense led by their trio of attacks, Brady Burton (Dublin, Ohio/Jerome), Emmett Jones (Colorado Springs, Colo./Air Academy), and Cory Couture (San Diego, Calif./Coronado).  Burton has scored 35 goals while breaking the school's all-time goal scoring mark last month.  Jones has also been climbing the ladder in the DU record books.  In their four-goal loss to No. 1 Stevenson last weekend, Jones scored four goals to become just the third junior to score 100 career goals at Denison.  The distributor for DU has been Couture who leads the team in points with 46.

Cabrini enters the tournament coming off their 10th consecutive Colonial States Athletic Conference title.  They are ranked No. 9 in the latest USILA Coaches Poll and have posted a 14-3 record.  The Cavaliers' only three losses have come against NCAA tournament qualifiers, Haverford, Roanoke and Gettysburg.

The winner of the Denison-Cabrini match will travel to Stevenson on Saturday (May 15) for a second-round match-up with the top-ranked Mustangs.
