Box Score The Big Red held Trine University to just 10 first half points while forcing the Thunder into 18 turnovers resulting in a 64-29 victory from Hershey Hall in Angola, Ind. The win pushes Denison's record to 4-0 while Trine dips to 1-2.
Denison took a commanding 30-point lead into the halftime intermission thanks to 11 points by Serafina Nuzzo (Western Springs, Ill./Fenwick) in 14 minutes of action. Trine hit on just 3-of-18 (16.7%) shots from the field in the opening 20-minutes of play and the Big Red countered by converting 17 of 31 field goal attempts. Ten different DU players got in the scoring act and 16 saw playing time.
Denison was led by Nuzzo who finished with 13 points and five rebounds in just 22 minutes. Shaina Kaiser (Ostrander, Ohio/Buckeye Valley) followed with 10 points, eight rebounds and two steals in 27 minutes. Junior forward Jessica Grzybowski (Parma, Ohio/Padua) and sophomore center Lucy Follansbee (Nashville, Tenn./Harpeth Hall School) each chipped in nine points and four rebounds. Grzybowski played 22 minutes and was 4-of-8 from the field in her starting role. Follansbee came off the bench for 14 minutes and was 3 for 5. Also contributing nine markers off the bench was senior Haley Dahlgard (Walnut Creek, Calif./Northgate).
DU outrebounded the Thunder 41-26 and while turning 18 of their turnovers into 19 points. The Denison bench also outscored Trine 28-5.
Trine was led in scoring by Haley Killingbeck, Katelyn Kaminski and Liz Gehrig who all scored six points apiece.
Denison is off to the best start to a season since 2005-06 when they also started the year 4-0. The Big Red will try to start the season 5-0 for the first time since 1974-75 on Saturday (Nov. 27) when they host Carnegie Mellon at 2 p.m.
