Big Red improve to 3-0 after victory over W&J

Three players scored in double figures and the Denison defense forced Washington & Jefferson in to 21 turnovers resulting in a 67-51 victory over the Presidents to cap off the 2010 W&J Tip-Off Classic.

Denison held a 10-point lead at halftime and pushed their lead out to as many as 19 points in the second half to run their record to a perfect 3-0.  The Big Red clamped down on the Presidents, holding their starting five to just six made field goals.

The Big Red was led by backcourt duo of Nicole Coggins (Mesa, Ariz./Corona Del Sol) and Serafina Nuzzo (Western Springs, Ill./Fenwick) who each scored 17 points.  For Coggins it marked a career-high in points.  She was 8-of-13 from the field while also adding five assists.  Nuzzo was 6-of-15 from the floor while grabbing six rebounds and handing out a game-high seven assists.

Last night Shaina Kaiser (Ostrander, Ohio/Buckeye Valley) moved into eighth place on the Denison all-time scoring list.  Today she scored 13 points and needs just 19 points to move past Emma Woodward and into seventh place on the DU career scoring list.

Leading the way for the Presidents was Taylor Gruss who scored 12 points off the bench.  W&J connected on 18-of-45 from the field and were 13-of-21 from the free throw line.  Denison shot 42 percent from the field (25-of-60) and were 12-for-13 from the charity stripe.  The Big Red held a 34-33 advantage on the boards and turned Washington & Jefferson's 21 turnovers into 24 points.

In the post-tournament awards ceremony Denison's Nuzzo and Kaiser were named to the Tip-Off Classic All-Tournament team.  The Big Red will travel to Trine University (Mich.) on Tuesday (Nov. 23) for a 6 p.m. tip-off with the Thunder.
