McMahon's hat trick sends DU past Oberlin

Box Score

Katie McMahon (Wilmette, Ill./New Trier) logged her first career hat trick and the Big Red outshot Oberlin College, 26-8 en route to a 3-0 North Coast Athletic Conference road victory for Denison.  The win moves their conference record to 4-4 with four conference matches left.

Denison scored two of their three goals in the first half and they broke through in the 18th minute when Hilary Zdanowski (Ann Arbor, Mich./Pioneer) found McMahon in front of the goal for her third goal of the season. Eight minutes late McMahon would strike again, this time on an unassisted goal.

The Big Red's final score of the afternoon would come 10 minutes into the second half thanks to another unassisted goal by McMahon.  Denison kept the Oberlin defense busy all afternoon thanks to their 28 shots and 22 shots on-goal.  Yeowomen goalkeeper Kirian Puri played well, posting 18 saves.  Her counterpart, Denison's Brittany Benson (Wilmette, Ill./New Trier) turned in five saves while facing eight Oberlin shot attempts.

Denison will return to action next Friday (Oct. 15) when they host Wittenberg at 4:30 p.m.
