Denison rolls past Quakers

Box Score

Catie Merrick (Owings Mills, Md./Garrison Forest) and Kerianne Sullivan (Chatham, N.J./Chatham) each scored a pair of goals as the Denison Big Red handed the Earlham College Quakers a 7-0 loss on Tuesday afternoon from Deeds Field-Piper Stadium in Granville.

Denison scored twice in the opening six minutes of the contest and held a 4-0 lead at the half.  Merrick got things going with her 14th goals of the season in the third minute and sophomore Hilary Zdanowski (Ann Arbor, Mich./Pioneer) followed off an assist by Katie McMahon (Wilmette, Ill./New Trier) in the sixth minute of action.

McMahon would follow with her second goal of the season off an assist from Merrick and six minutes later Merrick would net her team-best 15th goal off a penalty corner situation.  In the second half, Sullivan would drive home back-to-back goals off assists from McMahon and Caroline Kasper (Richmond, Va./St. Catherine's) to give the Big Red a 6-0 lead.  With just under 10 minutes to play first-year Taylor Bacon (Mission Hills, Kan./Pembroke Hill School) closed out Denison's scoring with her first career goal after Katherine Ireland (Evanston, Ill./Loyola Academy) found her in front of the goal from the right side of the field.

DU outshot the Quakers 31-2.  Earlham's Emma Treece posted 14 saves.  Denison's Amaya Hagen (Bilthoven, Netherlands/Utrecht Stedelijk Gymnasium) had one defensive save for the Big Red early in the second half.  Brittany Benson (Wilmette, Ill./New Trier) and Laura Campbell (Louisville, Ky./Kentucky Country Day) combined for the shutout for Denison.

The Big Red will return to action on Saturday when they travel to Oberlin College for a 12 p.m. start.
