Box Score Kenyon's Sophia Daly broke a scoreless tie six minutes into the first overtime period, sending her squad to a 1-0 victory over the Denison Big Red field hockey team from Deeds Field-Piper Stadium on Saturday morning.
Kenyon's game-winning goal occurred after Joy Leaman sent a ball in front of the goal after a restart. Daly was there to get just enough of a stick on the ball to send it into the cage for the sudden-victory.
The Big Red offense dominated possession for much of regulation and even the early minutes of overtime. DU's attempted four shots and had two penalty corners in the first five minutes of OT. In regulation, Denison outshot Kenyon, 8-4.
Denison was led offensively by Catie Merrick (Owings Mills, Md./Garrison Forest) who attempted four shots. Alex Berman (Winnetka, Ill./New Trier) finished with three shots, with two ending up on-goal. Brittany Benson (Wilmette, Ill./New Trier) had one save for Denison while Kenyon's Sydney Carney-Knisely finished with four saves.
The Big Red will return to action tomorrow when they host Lindenwood at 11 a.m.
