Lee earns 300th career victory as Big Red knock off Oberlin

Denison University women's basketball coach Sara Lee earned the 300th win of her career following the Big Red's 69-26 victory over Oberlin College in North Coast Athletic Conference action on Wednesday evening at Philips Gym.  Coach Lee's milestone victory snapped Denison's three-game losing streak.

Lee entered the season ranked 47th among active Division III head coaches in career victories.  She is also the winningest coach in the history of the Denison women's basketball program and is the third coach in the history of the North Coast Athletic Conference to reach the 300-win plateau, joining Pam Smith (Wittenberg) and Nan Carney-DeBord (Ohio Wesleyan).

After a late first-half charge put the Big Red up 29-15 at the intermission, DU controlled the entire second period and outscored the Yeowomen 40-11.  The 26 points surrendered by the Big Red were the fewest allowed since giving up 15 tallies in a victory over Hilbert on Nov. 27, 1999.

Junior Shaina Kaiser (Ostrander, Ohio/Buckeye Valley) led the Denison charge with a game-high 13 points and seven rebounds.  First-year Serafina Nuzzo (Western Springs, Ill./Fenwick) and sophomore Christina Myers (Pataskala, Ohio/Watkins Memorial) each added 11 tallies, while Jessica Gryzbowski (Parma, Ohio/Padua Franciscan) pulled down a game-high 11 boards.

Kayla Brandt paced Oberlin with 11 points, while Emily Chu Finkel grabbed 11 rebounds.

The Big Red improves to 11-4 on the year and 3-3 in the North Coast Athletic Conference, while the Yeowomen fall to 2-12 overall and 1-4 in the conference.  Denison returns to action next Wednesday (Jan. 20) when they host Earlham College at 6 p.m.
