Big Red's comeback attempt falls short at Kenyon

Kenyon College jumped out to a 2-0 lead and held off a late Big Red comeback attempt on Tuesday afternoon, sending Denison to a 2-1 loss at the hands of the Ladies at McBride Field in Gambier, Ohio.

Denison's lone goal came from sophomore Kelsey Flowers (Darien, Conn./Darien) off an assist from Emily Marshall (Louisville, Ky./Louisville) following a penalty corner.  The goal was the first of the season for Flowers and came in the 65th minute.

Kenyon's first goal came in the 19th minute when Maggie Gilligan scored her first goal of the season.  They would get the eventual game-winner from Hannah McConnell in the 58th minute.

The Big Red outshot Kenyon 14-9 but the Ladies goalie Jenna Klein turned in an outstanding performance by posting nine saves.  Denison goalie Brittany Benson (Wilmette, Ill./New Trier) stopped two would-be goals from finding the back of the cage.

The loss drops Denison's record to 3-3 overall and 2-2 in North Coast Athletic Conference play.  They will be back in action on Friday (Sept. 18) when they take on Earlham College at 4:30 p.m. in Richmond, Ind.
