No. 6 Denison blanks Hope

After suffering their first loss of the season, the sixth-ranked Denison women's soccer team rebounded with a 4-0 victory over Hope College on Saturday afternoon in Holland, Mich.  With the win, the Big Red improve to 4-1 on the year as they hand the Flying Dutch their first loss of the season.

Denison wasted no time getting on the scoreboard as first-year Sara Livingston (Erie, Pa./Mercyhurst Prep) found senior Julie Dean (Hamilton, Ohio/Mt. Notre Dame) for her first goal of the season at the 3:08 mark via a corner kick.  Livingston continued her generosity when she found junior Maggie Hoskin (Chicago, Ill./Homewood-Flossmoor) to increase the DU a 2-0 lead in the ninth minute.

Rookie Korina Velasco (Anchorage, Alaska/West Anchorage) helped pad the Denison advantage with an unassisted tally in the 78th minute of play.  The Big Red closed the door on Hope when junior Kimmi Oshita (Cincinnati, Ohio/Sycamore) took a pass from classmate Jen Clemmer (Hixson, Tenn./The Baylor School) and scored at 83:49.

The DU offense went on a tear as they outshot the Flying Dutch 32-10, which included a 17-4 advantage in shots on goal.  The Big Red also attempted 10 corner kicks, compared to Hope's two.  Senior keeper Courtney Cobb (Sylvania, Ohio/St. Ursula Academy) stopped all four shots she faced, while Kelsey Bos made 13 saves.

The Big Red return to the field on Tuesday (Sept. 15) when the travel to Westerville, Ohio to take on 25th-ranked Otterbein College.  Match time is scheduled for 5 p.m.
