Despite outshooting Wittenberg 17-14, the Big Red suffered a 3-0 loss to Wittenberg on Wednesday in a battle of the two teams who entered the day tied for second place in the North Coast Athletic Conference.

Wittenberg scored twice in the first half in a span of three minutes to take a commanding 2-0 lead.  They outshot DU 8-3 in the opening period but the Big Red would wake up in the second half.  They took 14 shots over the final 35 minutes and forced Tiger goalie Jenny Schaafsma to make seven saves.

Wittenberg got goals from Tori Casanta, Elizabeth Dqyer and Boo Vernon.  Kellen Morrissey assisted on Wittenberg's final goal in the 48th minute.

Denison goalkeeper Brittany Benson (Wilmete, Ill./New Trier) posted five saves and senior Emily Marshall (Louisville, Ky./duPont Manuel) had one defensive save.

The Big Red will return to the field on Saturday with a key NCAC match-up against Ohio Wesleyan University, in Delaware, Ohio at 11 a.m.
