Box Score University of Chicago quarterback Marshall Oium threw for 472 yards and five touchdown passes as his Maroons rolled to a 38-7 victory over the Denison Big Red from Stagg Field in Chicago, Ill.
Oium completed eight passes on the day for over 20-yards en route to his career day under center. He found Clay Wolffe for a 43-yard touchdown in the opening minutes of the first quarter. Later in that same quarter he would hook up with Dee Brizzolara on a 73-yard scoring strike giving his Maroons a 14-0 lead.
The Big Red defense clamped down in the second quarter, holding Chicago to just a field goal, but big third quarter, highlighted by two Oium-to-Brizzolara touchdown passes put the game out of reach.
Denison would get on the scoreboard in the fourth quarter when back-up quarterback Max Paulus (Massillon, Ohio/Jackson) guided DU down the field for an 11-play 69 yard drive that ended with a 15-yard touchdown run by sophomore Josh Atkins (Heath, Ohio/Lakewood).
The Big Red passing offense struggled all afternoon, posting just 57 yards compared to 472 for the home team. On the ground, DU outrushed Chicago 135-75 thanks to 98 yards rushing by senior tailback Nick Krempasky (San Clemente, Calif/San Clemente).
On defense, senior Drew Hanna (Hunting Valley, Ohio/University School) led the way with four tackles and one interception, squashing a Chicago drive just before halftime. Hanna returned that interception 54 yards to the Chicago 16 yard line.
The loss drops Denison's record to 2-5 while Chicago improves to 4-2. The Big Red will host No. 21 Wittenberg next Saturday (Oct. 31) at 7 p.m.
