Explosive first half propels No. 20 DU past No. 25 Thomas More

The 20th-ranked Denison women's soccer team exploded for five first-half goals over a 19 minute span en route to a 5-0 Senior Day victory over previously undefeated and 25th-ranked Thomas More College on a wet and cold Saturday afternoon at Barclay-Thomsen Field.

The Saints entered today's game allowing just three goals all season, and holding a 251-97 advantage in shots on their opponents.  DU was able to hang five goals on the Thomas More defense and didn't allow TMC to record a shot all day.

After several scoring chances in the opening minutes of play including a goal that was taken away due to an offsides call, sophomore Angie Coderre (Flossmor, Ill./Homewood-Flossmoor) gave the Big Red a 1-0 lead on a header that she buried into the upper left 90 off a corner kick by senior Anna Rusch (Washington, D.C./Sidwell Friends School) at the 19:32 mark.

Reigning North Coast Athletic Conference Player of the Week Jen Clemmer (Hixson, Tenn./The Baylor School) added a pair of insurance goals in the 27th and 30th  minutes to expanded Denison's advantage.  Clemmer's first goal was a header off a crossing pass by senior Kate Henderson (Denver, Colo./George Washington).  The Hixson, Tenn. native then received a pass up the middle of the field from classmate Eliza Miller (Canal Winchester, Ohio/The Wellington School) and unloaded a shot that deflected off the challenging goalkeeper and into the back of the net.

Juniors Maggie Hoskin (Chicago, Ill./Homewood-Flossmoor) and Kimmi Oshita (Cincinnati, Ohio/Sycamore) each added header goals off assists from Clemmer in the 37th and 39th minutes to close out the scoring onslaught.

Both teams committed just six fouls each, while Denison held a 12-2 advantage in corner kicks.  Thomas More keeper Jenna Kramer made seven save on the day while senior Courtney Cobb (Sylvania, Ohio/St. Ursula Academy) and sophomore Kerrigan Dopp (McLean, Va./McLean School of Md.) combined for DU's 12th shutout of the year.

Denison improves to 12-2-1 overall, while the Saints fall to 12-1.  The Big Red returns to action on Wednesday (Oct. 21) when they host NCAC rival Kenyon College at 7 p.m.
